Robwhiteley is a mid-sized asteroid whose orbit approaches the orbit of Earth but does not cross it. NASA JPL has classified Robwhiteley as a "Near Earth Asteroid" due to its orbit's proximity to Earth, but it is not considered potentially hazardous because computer simulations have not indicated any imminent likelihood of future collision.

Robwhiteley orbits the sun every 939 days (2.57 years), coming as close as 1.10 AU and reaching as far as 2.65 AU from the sun. Robwhiteley is about 2.7 kilometers in diameter, making it larger than 99% of asteroids, comparable in size to Mount Everest.

The rotation of Robwhiteley has been observed. It completes a rotation on its axis every 2.72 hours.

Robwhiteley's orbit is determined by observations dating back to Dec. 30, 1954. It was last officially observed on Sept. 28, 2022. The IAU Minor Planet Center records 5,148 observations used to determine its orbit.

Accessibility and Exploration

This asteroid is not considered a viable target for human exploration by the NHATS study.
